Lieutenant Governor Taylor Revokes Van Wert Insurance Agent’s License

Ohio Lieutenant Governor and Department of Insurance Director Mary Taylor revoked the resident insurance agent license of Deana Ladd, of Van Wert, Ohio, for violations of Ohio insurance law.

 

A Department review revealed that around March 23, 2009, Ladd was convicted of theft, a felony. Ohio insurance law allows the Director to revoke an agent’s Ohio insurance license for being convicted of a felony.

 

Ladd’s resident insurance agent license was revoked June 27, 2011.

Florida Judge Rules Affordable Care Act Unconstitutional

Judge C. Roger Vinson of the US District Court for the Northern District of Florida has ruled on Monday that the federal health reform law, specifically called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, is unconstitutional. Judge Vinson agrees with plaintiffs in that the mandate exceeds Congress’ power to regulate interstate commerce, a condition known as the “Commerce Clause.”

While Judge Vinson is the second federal judge to strike down the Affordable Care Act, he is the first to overturn the entire healthcare reform law. Two other rulings have been in favor of proceeding with the law as it currently stands.

Nursing Homes and Home Care Agencies Seek Exemption from Health Care Law Requirement

Beginning in 2014, the new Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will mandate that employers who have 50 or more full-time employees must offer affordable health insurance coverage or risk paying a penalty. Nursing homes and home care agencies, because they rely so much on low-paying government program reimbursements, often cannot financially provide this benefit to its caregivers and are seeking to be exempted from the requirement, reports the New York Times today.
